Hi,
I am a writer, editor and author from the north of Ireland, currently living in Edinburgh. I am First Person Editor at gal-dem and Non-Fiction Editor at Extra Teeth. I write about culture and society for publications like i-D, Huck, VICE, Dazed, the Guardian, the Independent, Empire and Little White Lies.
In 2019 I was shortlisted for Young Journalist of the Year by PPA Scotland. In 2021, my essay oranges published in issue four of Extra Teeth was shortlisted for the Anne Brown Prize, in association with Wigtown Book Festival and BBC Scotland.
My first book of short non-fiction The End: Surviving the World Through Imagined Disasters is out now, published by 404 Ink. The Big Issue listed it as a 2021 Book Of The Year and called it “beautifully argued and deeply perceptive… it made me think differently about how society and the psyche function.” In 2022, The End was shortlisted for the inaugural Kavya Prize, in association with the University of Glasgow.
I co-present and co-produce the EHFM Culture Show on the Edinburgh-based, community radio station, EHFM. I have featured as a guest critic on Little Whites Lies’ podcast Truth & Movies, Wigtown Book Festival Podcast and BBC Radio Scotland.
I speak on panels and facilitate workshops; previously for Lighthouse Book’s Radical Book Fair, Wigtown Book Festival, Neu Reekie, Aye Write, Granite Noir, Creative Edinburgh, the University of Edinburgh, This Way Up, YMCA Scotland, Glasgow Film Theatre, Glasgow Film Festival, the Filmhouse (Edinburgh) and the Cameo (Edinburgh).
I have curated film programmes at Summerhall and Glasgow Short Film Festival. I have been a jury member for We Are Here Scotland and the Scottish Mental Health Festival’s film awards. I have been a submissions viewer for Glasgow Short Film Festival and am a submissions reader for Extra Teeth.
I graduated with an MA in English Literature from the University of Glasgow in 2016 and an MSc in Literature and Modernity from the University of Edinburgh in 2017.
